Why I Started Tulsa Blacktivities
My name is Justine Jackson — I’m a New Yorker by way of Queens, a first-gen Jamaican-American, and the founder of Tulsa Blacktivities.
When I moved to Tulsa through the Tulsa Remote program, I came looking for a fresh start — but I also knew I’d be leaving behind cities full of rich Black culture and community. After arriving, I noticed something missing: spaces where Blackness was truly centered. I met other transplants searching for connection, and I listened to local Black Tulsans who felt like their voices and contributions were being overlooked in their own city.
I started Tulsa Blacktivities to bridge that gap — not just with events, but with intention. I wanted to create the kind of community I needed when I got here: one rooted in culture, care, and connection. A space where we feel seen, celebrated, and truly welcomed.
Tulsa Blacktivities is my love letter to Black Tulsa — past, present, and future. Whether you’re new to town or deeply rooted, I hope you’ll tap in, show up, and find your people here.
